ICD-10 Trainer

Credentials:

  • AHIMA Certified ICD-10 Trainer — June, 2011
  • Certified Obstetrics and Gynecology Coder (COBGC) — December, 2008
  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) — November, 2004

Skills:

  • Superior writing qualifications: I am responsible for writing the Ob-gyn Coding Alert, a national medical coding newsletter. This includes researching medical procedures, anatomy, and releases (ICD-9/CPT codes, National Correct Coding Initiative edits) from the American Medical Association (AMA). My articles break down complicated coding issues into a readable, instructional format. This is the top earning publication, and I sustain a high renewal rate.
  • Research/audience knowledge: I have written for the cardiology, otolaryngology, physical medicine and rehab, gastroenterology, orthopedic, neurology, and neurosurgery specialties. I’ve interviewed medical professionals and answered subscriber coding questions.
  • Project management: I am accountable for both The Coding Institute/Supercoder.com’s ICD-10 specialty specific books and an e-learning platform, which includes coordinating with fellow editors, layout specialists, quality assurance personnel, illustrators, and marketing representatives.
  • Communication: I have built credibility, established rapport, and maintained communication with consultants, physicians, conference speakers, subscribers, and potential clients.

  1. I worked using the ICD-9 for so many years and had heard about some of the changes coming out of the ICD-10. I’ve got a feeling there are going to be some very upset parents with the new coding in effect! I personally like some of the changes. They make more sense and are less redundant. I worked with medically special needs for many years as a special needs advocate. Please check out my blog; a taste of nearly completed WIP. YOU might find it interesting. http://suzannehill.1978.com

  2. I like the changes too, and although I don’t know much about hospital coding, I am IN LOVE with ICD-10-PCS! I know people look at me like I’m crazy, but I find that actually quite enjoyable. (I was told at the AHIMA ICD-10 training conference that this is typical of newer coders.) I’m currently the editor for the ICD-10 Coding Alert, which you can order at http://www.supercoder.com.
